Zumba - Gangnam Style

Yesterday I had a CRAVING for Zumba. I miss dancing so much and Zumba allows me to let loose and shake it! I searched 'Zumba' around my house and found that there is a skating rink nearby that has a class on Monday nights. I decided to give it a try, a little weary of the location but I needed the release that only dancing can give me. I pulled up and sure enough, it was a roller skating rink. There were a couple other ladies getting out of their cars at the same time as me that looked ready to Zumba so at least I knew I wouldn't be the only one in class. The $6 price was reasonable and I paid it and got a wristband. I walked into the skating rink and THAT SMELL lol same as Skate World in Springfield, they even had carpet on the walls (must be a skate rink thing). Apparently when you dance on a roller skating rink you need to put athletic tape on the bottom of your shoes to keep from slipping. I wasn't too happy about having to put sticky tape on my new Nikes, but when in Rome/Ghetto Skate Rink.

To be honest I was expecting to it to be a complete disaster based on the location and the fact I haven't danced in months. I was dripping sweat and breathing heavy after about 15 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the music selection was AWESOME, very Zumba authentic choices with Spanish songs and some more mainstream choices (but none of that pop crap), the choreography was fun, and the instructors were high energy. There was a guy and a girl, John and Amy who I later found out were married (awwww), who switched off leading the songs. Pretty sure Zumba John thinks he's Michael Jackson which made the class that much more fun and his positive vibes that much more infectious. Amy led a dance to Beyonce's 'Run the World (Girls)' that was kick-ass and I couldn't help but feel empowered as a woman. The last song of the class was the current phenom 'Gangnam Style', can't say that I saw that one coming but it was a blast and I sang along to the only words I know: heyyyyyyyyy sexy ladies!

I felt so good at the end of class my body tingled as I stretched out and cooled down. My hair was soaked to the ponytail and I couldn't get rid of the smile of satisfaction plastered on my face. I had totally forgotten that I was dancing in a skating rink and really gotten into it. I thanked the instructors after and they told me about a couple other classes they teach at different locations and I am looking forward to checking them out. One of my roomates told me that music can be just as addicting as any drug; I would have to say that for me dancing is my addiction and yesterday I got my fix.
